Building Tune-Ups Ordinance

Purpose of the Ordinance

The Building Tune-Ups Ordinance, passed in 2016, enhances energy and water efficiency in Seattle’s commercial and city-owned buildings.

Applicability of the Ordinance

This ordinance applies to commercial and city-owned buildings with a floor area of 50,000 square feet or more.

Compliance Requirements

Building owners are required to undertake mandatory energy and water tune-ups, including retrocommissioning, and submit reports to the city. Penalties for non-compliance escalate by building size, reaching $20,000 for buildings over 200,000 square feet if not compliant 360 days after the deadline.
