The Efficient Buildings Ordinance

Is a regulatory measure aimed at improving energy and water efficiency in buildings within the designated jurisdiction. Enacted to promote sustainability goals, this ordinance mandates the tracking of building energy and water usage using the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and annual reporting of data to the City.

  1. Applicability of the Ordinance

The ordinance applies to buildings exceeding 25,000 square feet in size.

  1. Compliance Requirements

Building owners covered by the ordinance are required to track building energy and water usage using the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and report the data to the City annually by June 1st. This requirement facilitates monitoring and assessment of energy and water consumption trends, supporting the jurisdiction’s efforts to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

Additionally, buildings over 25,000 square feet must conduct an energy assessment every five years. These assessments include recommendations for energy and water savings opportunities and are conducted at no cost to the building owner.
