The Pittsburgh Building Benchmarking Ordinance
Necessitates:
Owners of non-residential structures exceeding 50,000 square feet to annually disclose their energy and water consumption to the City through a process known as benchmarking.
Utilization of ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager for tracking energy and water usage, with data submission to the City of Pittsburgh. Building owners can access energy and water usage information from utility service providers, enabling comparisons with similar structures and monitoring year-over-year progress. This data aids owners in decision-making regarding maintenance and upgrades while promoting business transparency through publicly available benchmarking and compliance data.
Applicable Entities
All non-residential buildings spanning 50,000 square feet or more are mandated to report utility data to the City of Pittsburgh utilizing ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, as outlined in Pittsburgh Code §626.02.
Submission Deadlines
Compliance deadlines are set for June 1st, with exemption requests due 60 days prior, on April 2nd.
Reporting Procedures
Building owners must submit their energy consumption data to the EPA’s Portfolio Manager platform. This facilitates compliance with regulatory requirements and contributes to the city’s efforts to enhance energy efficiency and transparency in the built environment.
