Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Ordinance (CBEEO)
Purpose of the Ordinance
Implemented in 2015, the CBEEO encourages energy efficiency improvements in commercial and multifamily properties across Atlanta.
Applicability of the Ordinance
The ordinance applies to commercial and multifamily buildings of at least 25,000 square feet, as well as public properties of similar size.
Compliance Requirements
Owners must conduct energy audits that meet ASHRAE standards. Multifamily buildings with energy usage exceeding 150% of the average must implement measures to reduce consumption by 20%. Failure to comply results in a $1,000 fine if reporting is not completed within 90 days of a written warning, with annual fines for continued non-compliance.
